Lives on the issue

Jira stays the workspace. The game shows up where the work happens, and stays out of the way.

  • An issue card in the Jira sidebar shows what each action on this issue is worth to you.
  • A gentle nudge suggests the next useful step, like a comment or a worklog.
  • A native Jira flag pops a few seconds after XP lands.
  • Your party’s progress and the boss, right there on the card.
  • The full game lives on one page under Apps → Questlog.

Try it: click an action on the card.

XP for real work

Outcomes over activity: finishing work earns the most, and busywork can’t win a Gold chest. Each action pays once per person per issue, ever.

XP per action, with default values
Action XP Daily cap Pays when Pantry ingredient
Comment 8 6 Your first comment on the issue with at least 15 characters Coffee Bean
Log work 15 5 Your first worklog on the issue of 15 minutes or more Hourglass Sand
Complete issue 30 5 A non-bug issue reaches Done (credited to the assignee) Rubber Duck
Resolve bug 35 4 A bug reaches Done (credited to the assignee) Glowshroom
Move status 5 6 Your first status change on the issue Sticky Note
Create issue 8 5 You create the issue Sticky Note
Issue started 8 — Someone else starts an issue you created Sticky Note
Attachment 8 5 Your first attachment on the issue Sticky Note

Instant and final

XP lands the moment Jira reports the action. Deleting a comment or reopening an issue never takes it back.

Daily caps

Past a cap the work still counts in Jira, just without XP. “Daily limit: Comment 6/6. The work still counts.”

Only real people

Automation rules, apps, bulk changes and imports earn nothing. Neither do Jira Service Management portal customers.

Party expeditions

Every sprint, the party sets out together. Two objectives decide the chest.

Effort: keep your usual pace

The XP target comes from the party’s own recent history: its typical XP per member-day over the last six periods, times the days people are actually around, at 95%. A steady team makes it most sprints. No treadmill, no raise after a good run.

  • Away days (“Gone fishing”) take that day out of the target. The party only sees “away”, never a reason.
  • Periods follow your linked Scrum board’s sprint, or run for a fixed 1, 2 or 3 weeks.
  • Day boundaries use the party’s home time zone and working days.

Chests

Chest tiers and contents
Objectives met Chest Gold Items Renown
Neither Consolation crate 15 — —
One Bronze chest 30 1 Common or Rare +3
Both Gold chest 120 1 Epic + 1 Rare +10

Everyone who contributed on at least two days of the period gets the same chest. At period close each member sees a recap: the chest, the objectives and next period’s target with the reason for it.

A boss made of your sprint

The second objective is a real outcome, measured from Jira. The boss shows counts only, never issue names.

Sprint Boss

For parties linked to a Scrum board. HP is the number of issues in the sprint at the start. Issues added later spawn Scope Creep minions (+1 HP each), and removed issues take HP away. Every issue that reaches Done deals damage. Get 80% of it done and the boss is defeated.

Queue Beast

For fixed-length periods. Its HP comes from how many issues the party usually finishes per member-day, times the days people are around. Issues completed or resolved by party members deal damage.

Grum’s Daily Brew

Grum, the bear behind the bar, sets a new recipe every day: four different ingredients, in order. The party cracks it together.

  • A shared pantry. Every rewarded Jira action adds its ingredient, plus 3 free Candle Wax each day.
  • Shared tries. 3 a day, plus one for each member who contributed that day, up to 6.
  • Gold and silver pips for right-ingredient-right-slot and right-ingredient-wrong-slot.
  • Hints. One free (“no Coffee Bean today”); a second one reveals a slot for 5 gold.
  • Solve it for a +10% XP buff for the party until midnight, gold and XP for everyone who helped, and Renown.
  • Miss it and the brew streak pauses. It’s never lost.

Toasts

A thank-you with a drink attached. Raise one from the issue card to someone who helped on that issue.

  • Everyone gets one free Standup Stout a day. The giver earns 5 XP too.
  • The receiver sees who, which drink and the issue. The tavern’s Crier just says “Priya raised a Mead to Deniz”.
  • Up to 3 toasts a day, one per issue, and two a week to the same person, so it stays meaningful.

Standup Stout Free once a day, then 6 gold 10
Synergy Spritz (zero-proof) 5 gold 12

Your tavern

The party’s home. Renown never goes down: earn it from chests, defeated bosses, solved brews, toasts and rounds for the house, and it unlocks rooms with perks.

Tavern rooms
Room Renown Perk
Trophy Wall 10 Defeated bosses are mounted, and past expeditions can be browsed.
Brewing Cellar 20 The second brew hint is free.
Glowshroom Garden 35 One extra random ingredient in the pantry each working day.
Bard’s Corner 50 Bard’s Ballad Ale joins the menu.

Decorations

Members chip in gold toward a decoration, and it’s installed once fully funded:

  • Suspiciously Comfy Rug 60 g
  • Party Banner 80 g
  • String of Lanterns 120 g
  • Haunted Jukebox 180 g
  • Portrait of Grum (Flattering) 240 g
  • Candle Chandelier 300 g

Prices are set for a party of four and scale up with bigger parties. When the room is done, the party can keep buying rounds for the house for more Renown. The Crier sums up the day: “Deniz, Priya and 6 others finished 14 issues today.”

Characters and gear

One character per person: a cat, bear, frog or bunny with your choice of fur and cape. Change your look any time in the Mirror.

Three classes

Scribe for people who leave helpful comments, Timekeeper for people who actually log their hours, and Bug Hunter for people who fix the thing, then explain why. Each starts with its own kit.

45 items, 3 slots

Head, armor and weapon. Common +5%, Rare +10% and Epic +15% XP on the item’s action; Legendaries give +10% on everything. Gear bonuses count for your level only, so party targets stay honest.

The Armory

Browse every item, try anything on your own character, and equip what you own. Rarer items unlock at Lv 3, 8 and 15: early drops wait in the vault.

Levels and titles

  1. Lv 1 Intern of the Realm
  2. Lv 3 Ticket Squire
  3. Lv 5 Backlog Ranger
  4. Lv 8 Sprint Knight
  5. Lv 12 Scrum Sorcerer
  6. Lv 16 Release Warden
  7. Lv 20 Legend of the Board

Each level-up gives 10 gold and an item. After Lv 20, every 3,000 XP adds a Legend star. Your level is private unless you choose to show it on issue cards.

Fair play and privacy

Inclusive and non-competitive by design. Questlog is a team game, not a performance review.

  • No leaderboards, no public individual numbers and no “not yet” labels.
  • Personal XP, gold and daily caps are visible to you alone. Your level is private unless you opt in.
  • Admins see aggregates only: party totals, never per-person data.
  • Time logged is never shown, anywhere. Shared feeds never show issue keys or titles.
  • No Jira content is stored: no comment text, titles, descriptions or attachments.
